NHK’s television special Aru Shosetsuka no Nikki is set to air at 11:00 p.m. on March 8, with Kaho taking on the lead role. The supporting cast includes Sylvia Grab, Itao Itsuji, Matsuo Satoru, and Hayashi Yuta.

The story centers on Eto Megumi, portrayed by Kaho, a mid-career editor working at the publishing house Tobunsha. One year after the sudden death of renowned mystery novelist Serizawa Tamaki, who passed away after falling down a staircase, Megumi receives unexpected news from his wife Mariko that he left behind an unpublished manuscript.
When Megumi visits their home, she discovers Serizawa’s personal diary and realizes it is a valuable record of his reflections on life. However, as she reads further, she begins to sense a subtle disconnect between the writer she once knew and the person revealed through the diary, despite its seemingly candid tone.
Following Serizawa’s death, Mariko learns that her husband had confided his anxieties and inner struggles to a generative AI, incorporating elements of those conversations into the manuscript she later shows Megumi. As her desire grows, Megumi crosses the boundaries of her role as an editor and proposes revising the diary to make it more compelling for publication. Mariko agrees, hoping to better understand the genuine feelings of her late husband. Yet their decision leads to unforeseen consequences, stirring events neither of them anticipated.
