Park Jinyoung recently opened up about his upcoming drama “Shining” and the reasons behind his decision to join the project.

“Shining” tells the story of young individuals who once shared a world of their own and gradually become each other’s source of trust and guiding light in life. In the series, Park Jinyoung plays Yeon Tae Seo, a subway train driver who conceals a tender sensitivity beneath a calm and stoic exterior. The narrative follows the character from age 19 into adulthood, requiring a nuanced portrayal of emotional growth.

Explaining his choice to star in the drama, Park Jinyoung said he was drawn to its realistic storytelling. He noted that the series goes beyond portraying a picturesque youth, instead delving into struggles that resonate with everyday life.

Describing Yeon Tae Seo, he shared that the character felt like “someone the script presents with unconditional trust—the kind of person you wish existed.” He expressed his desire to portray such warmth on screen.

Reflecting on his first impression of the role, Park Jinyoung remarked that while people often struggle with others’ perceptions, Yeon Tae Seo lives life in his own way rather than being defined by external judgment. That independence, he said, was particularly appealing.

As the story spans multiple life stages, Park Jinyoung explained that he did not deliberately emphasize differences in age. Instead, he focused on how Tae Seo’s way of handling hardships evolves over time, portraying a slightly more experienced and mature figure in adulthood while maintaining the character’s core traits.

He also highlighted that the beauty of the drama lies in its ordinary, relatable moments. The emotional journey of Yeon Tae Seo and Mo Eun Ah, played by Kim Min Ju, reflects feelings many people experience at some point in their lives.

“Shining” is scheduled to premiere on March 6 at 8:50 p.m. KST.
