The period drama Hello 1983 has officially announced its premiere date of March 17. Directed by Zhu Dongning and Huang Chun, the series stars Zhou Ye and Zhai Xiaowen in leading roles and is adapted from Bao Zhuangcheng’s popular novel Rebirth in the 1980s: My Wife Is a Little Fierce. After moving through multiple production stages—from project registration and filming to completion and obtaining its distribution license—the drama is now set to meet audiences after a long development process.

Set against a time-travel narrative, the story follows Xia Xiaolan, a modern corporate executive who unexpectedly travels back to the year 1983. Reborn as an 18-year-old rural girl, she begins her journey with small-scale businesses such as selling duck eggs and fried pancakes. Over time, she ventures into clothing trading and eventually steps into the real estate industry, gradually reshaping her destiny amid the economic changes of the era. Zhou Ye’s portrayal of Xia Xiaolan depicts a character who must both overcome the challenges of the national college entrance examination and navigate the evolving business world while pursuing personal growth.

Alongside the entrepreneurial storyline, the drama also develops a romantic narrative between Xia Xiaolan and Zhou Cheng, a young man from a prominent family played by Zhai Xiaowen. Their relationship unfolds within the broader backdrop of social transformation, adding an emotional dimension to the story. The cast is further strengthened by the participation of experienced actors such as Dong Xuan and Kuei Ya-lei, whose performances contribute additional depth to the period setting and character dynamics.

The drama’s broadcast schedule has also drawn attention. Hello 1983 was initially expected to premiere during the Lunar New Year holiday in 2026, specifically on the fifth day of the first lunar month. However, the schedule was later postponed to March. With the official confirmation of a March 17 release date, the production has finally secured its place in the television lineup.

From a narrative perspective, the series combines elements of time travel, entrepreneurship, and personal transformation. Through Xia Xiaolan’s journey, the drama portrays a story of independence in which education and business ambitions develop alongside each other. By intertwining a period setting with themes of determination and resilience, the drama explores how individuals reshape their lives through courage and decisive action.

As the premiere approaches, Hello 1983 is set to enter the market with expectations surrounding its mix of nostalgia, character-driven storytelling, and a female-led narrative of ambition and growth. Whether the series will resonate with audiences remains a point of interest as its release date draws near.
