The upcoming film The Ultimate Duo has unveiled its first character stills of Esom, offering an early look at her transformation into a determined prosecutor driven by an uncompromising pursuit of truth. Inspired by a real-life case, the film is set to deliver a tense narrative that blends investigative drama with character-driven intensity.
The Ultimate Duo follows the story of Jae Hyuk, played by Bae Sung Woo, a detective who has been demoted to a rural outpost, and Joong Ho, portrayed by Jung Ga Ram, a rookie detective. Together, they head to Seoul to track down the real killer behind a murder case involving two suspects, unraveling layers of uncertainty as they seek justice. Within this unfolding investigation, Esom’s character becomes a crucial force pushing the case forward.

In the film, Esom plays Mi Joo, a prosecutor known for her relentless dedication and refusal to compromise. As a self-described workaholic, Mi Joo is unwavering in her mission to uncover the truth, pursuing each case to its very end regardless of external pressure. When approached by the rural detective duo about a previously closed case in Seoul, she agrees without hesitation to reopen the investigation. Despite opposition from higher authorities urging her to let the matter rest, Mi Joo remains resolute, even visiting crime scenes herself to uncover hidden evidence.
Through this role, Esom is expected to portray a character defined not only by her professional rigor but also by a distinct personality. Reflecting on the role, Esom noted that while Mi Joo may appear stubborn and inflexible in her work, she sought to imbue the character with individuality and nuance beyond her rigid exterior. This layered approach suggests a performance that balances intensity with subtle emotional depth.
Director Park Cheol Hwan expressed strong confidence in her casting, emphasizing that Mi Joo is a character who moves forward without hesitation, guided by conviction rather than public opinion. He remarked that from their first meeting, Esom embodied the same aura as the character, making her an ideal choice for the role. This alignment between actor and character is expected to enhance the authenticity of the performance.
Scheduled for theatrical release on April 2, The Ultimate Duo positions Esom at the center of a gripping investigation, where determination and moral conviction collide with institutional pressure. With Esom bringing Mi Joo to life, the film is poised to explore the tension between justice and authority through a compelling and steadfast protagonist.
