The live-action adaptation of Dao Gui Yi Xian (道诡异仙) has become a growing topic of discussion in recent weeks, particularly as new industry rumors continue to surface about its development progress.

According to current reports circulating within entertainment circles, Luo Yunxi remains the primary actor being approached for the male lead role, and that direction reportedly has not changed.

Why the Project Is Drawing So Much Attention

Part of the interest surrounding Dao Gui Yi Xian (道诡异仙) comes from the source material itself.

The original novel stands out for its highly unconventional premise, combining Chinese-style cosmic horror, cultivation fantasy, and psychological contamination themes—an unusual blend that many readers describe as “Chinese Lovecraftian xianxia.”

That unique concept has made the adaptation highly anticipated, but it has also raised questions about whether such a complex story can be successfully translated to screen.

The project’s challenging world-building and heavy psychological elements make it far more complicated than standard fantasy dramas currently dominating the market.

Luo Yunxi’s Next Move Under Scrutiny

Another reason the drama continues to generate attention is Luo Yunxi’s own schedule.

Following Water Dragon Chant (水龙吟), the actor has not officially entered a new production for some time, prompting growing curiosity about his next project.

Recent rumors suggest Dao Gui Yi Xian (道诡异仙) is one of the major projects he is currently in deep discussions for.

Script Reportedly Near Completion

Industry chatter also claims that the script is largely complete and that the project has moved relatively far along in development.

Some reports suggest filming could begin as early as late third quarter this year, which aligns with recent discussions about Luo Yunxi’s extended break between projects.

However, no official production timeline has been announced.

The Biggest Challenge: Budget and Production Scale

At this stage, the biggest obstacle reportedly isn’t casting—it’s production logistics.

Because the story involves large-scale world-building, heavy visual effects requirements, surreal horror imagery, and significant adaptation risks, producers are reportedly still working to secure investment while assembling the broader cast and production team.

In other words, the project appears to be progressing—but it remains stuck at one of the entertainment industry’s most common hurdles: balancing financing with creative ambition.

If investment negotiations move smoothly and supporting cast members are finalized soon, a late-Q3 filming start remains possible.

If not, delays into late this year—or even early next year—would not be surprising.

For now, Dao Gui Yi Xian (道诡异仙) appears to be in a phase where the male lead direction is relatively clear, while the production side continues navigating major behind-the-scenes negotiations.
