Yang Mi Sheds Glamour for Rural Drama

Renowned actress Yang Mi, known for her roles in popular costume dramas such as Chinese Paladin 3Palace, and Eternal Love, is taking on a significantly different challenge in the upcoming rural-themed drama This Thriving Land (生万物). In this series, she abandons her glamorous image to portray Ning Xiuxiu, marking a departure from the roles she’s famous for. Filming began in May 2024 in Shandong and concluded on August 5, 2024.

A Shift in Role

In the drama, Ning Xiuxiu, the daughter of Tianniumiao village’s wealthiest man, faces severe challenges. Kidnapped by bandits on her wedding day, her father’s refusal to pay her ransom leads her to disown her family. Determined to start anew, she marries a farmer and learns the true value of land to the villagers. Inspired by revolutionary concepts, she strives to liberate the minds of the village women. Early glimpses of This Thriving Land suggest a powerful and serious performance by Yang Mi, showcasing her versatility as an actress.

Promising Cast and Crew

The drama does not solely rely on Yang Mi’s star power. It also boasts of an impressive ensemble, including Ou Hao as the leading man and veteran actors like Ni Dahong and Qin Hailu. This series also features Fair Xing, who is stepping into an uncharacteristically diverse role, far from the spunky heroines she is known for in idol dramas. Special appearances by Lin Yongjian and Lyric Lan further enhance the lineup.

Anticipation and Expectations

Despite a few recent disappointments in her previous works, Yang Mi’s role in This Thriving Land appears promising, signaling a positive shift in her career. Fans and critics alike are eagerly anticipating her performance in this role, hoping it will exemplify her range and depth as an accomplished actress. This transformation points to Yang Mi’s commitment to taking on more diverse and challenging projects, which could shape her career trajectory moving forward.
