Daigo Nishihata of Naniwa Danshi and actress Riko Fukumoto have been cast as the leads in the upcoming feature film Jikyu 300-en no Shinigami. The movie is adapted from the novel of the same name by Fujimaru, which has also been published in Vietnam under the title “Than chet lam them 300 Yen/Gio”. The film is directed by Sakai Mai, known for works such as Utsukushii Kare, Strawberry Moon: Yomei Hantoshi no Koi, and Cha-Cha.
The story centers on the concept of a “part-time Grim Reaper.” Nishihata plays Shinji Sakurai, a university student pushed into despair after his father is arrested, his parents divorce, and he becomes burdened with overwhelming debt. At his lowest point, he is approached by his classmate Yuki Hanamori, portrayed by Fukumoto, who introduces him to a mysterious part-time job—working as a Grim Reaper for 300 yen per hour.
As Shinji accepts the offer, the film follows how this unusual occupation begins to reshape his outlook on life and death. Beneath its fantasy premise, the narrative explores themes of survival, responsibility, and the difficult choices faced by young people confronting harsh realities.
Jikyu 300-en no Shinigami is scheduled for theatrical release in Japan this autumn, and the pairing of Nishihata and Fukumoto has already generated interest among fans and film audiences alike.
