SBS’s upcoming romantic comedy My Royal Nemesis has unveiled new stills highlighting the first encounter between Lim Ji Yeon and Heo Nam Jun, presenting a relationship dynamic that begins with confrontation and quickly shifts into unexpected intimacy.
The drama follows Shin Seo Ri, played by Lim Ji Yeon, a struggling actress whose life is disrupted after being possessed by the spirit of a notorious villainess from the Joseon era. Opposite her, Heo Nam Jun portrays Cha Se Gye, a ruthless chaebol heir, creating a pairing built on strong personalities and inherent tension.

In the newly revealed scenes, the two characters meet in the middle of the street and immediately become embroiled in a heated “duel,” using flowers as their weapons. Shin Seo Ri, influenced by the villainess persona within her, adopts a combative and assertive stance, while Cha Se Gye appears caught off guard, defensively responding to the unexpected confrontation.
This exaggerated interaction underscores the drama’s comedic tone while also establishing the volatile nature of their relationship. The clash is not only physical in a symbolic sense but also reflects deeper personality differences that are likely to shape their future interactions.
The tone then shifts abruptly as Cha Se Gye suddenly pulls Shin Seo Ri into an embrace. The moment catches her by surprise, breaking the tension in an unexpected way and introducing a contrasting layer of emotional complexity. This rapid transition from conflict to closeness suggests that their relationship will evolve in unpredictable directions.
By combining exaggerated comedic setups with emotional reversals, My Royal Nemesis sets up a dynamic that balances humor and romance. The first meeting between the two leads functions as a narrative foundation, hinting at both conflict-driven development and gradual emotional change.
The drama is scheduled to premiere on May 8 at 9:50 p.m. KST.
