Have you watched Nanjing Photo Studio (《南京照相馆》) yet? It’s looking like a potential dark horse for this summer’s box office. The film wrapped shooting in April and is already set to release in August — an impressively fast turnaround. Based on early screenings, the word of mouth has been quite positive, and audiences are eagerly waiting for its official release.
However, given that Nanjing Photo Studio (《南京照相馆》) is a historical drama with a heavier tone, its box office numbers might not reach the same heights as commercial blockbusters. Still, as long as it maintains strong reviews, this could become another standout work for Liu Haoran (刘昊然), beyond his well-known Detective Chinatown (《唐探》) series.
Interestingly, Liu Haoran (刘昊然) is also reportedly in talks for a sci-fi film titled We Live in Nanjing (《我们生活在南京》). Moving from historical films to science fiction shows his willingness to challenge himself with diverse genres and roles.
