MBC’s upcoming drama The Judge Returns is set to premiere soon, drawing attention for its intense premise and the pairing of Ji Sung and Won Jin Ah. Centered on a time-slip narrative, the series explores redemption, justice, and the consequences of power within the legal system.

Ji Sung stars as Lee Han Young, a corrupt judge who has long acted at the behest of a powerful law firm. Though respected on the surface, he is little more than a pawn within a compromised judicial structure. After an unexpected turn of fate sends him ten years into the past, Han Young is given a rare opportunity to confront his former choices and pursue genuine justice by punishing those responsible for systemic corruption.

Won Jin Ah plays Kim Jin Ah, a driven prosecutor determined to avenge her father’s death. Her pursuit of truth brings her into contact with Lee Han Young, who—armed with knowledge of the future—approaches her with the idea of forming an alliance. Despite their shared goal, their initial encounters are marked by distrust and open hostility.

Recently released stills highlight their first meeting in Han Young’s original timeline. When he visits his father at a nursing home, he encounters Jin Ah, who has followed him there. Han Young responds with suspicion and hostility, while Jin Ah remains unshaken, meeting his glare with unwavering resolve. The moment establishes a sharp contrast between their characters and sets the tone for their relationship.

This tense introduction leaves both characters with a strong sense of animosity. When they later cross paths again at the courthouse, their hostility is unmistakable, raising questions about how their fates become intertwined and what motivates Jin Ah’s pursuit of Han Young.

The Judge Returns combines themes of moral awakening and institutional corruption, with particular emphasis on the evolving dynamic between its two leads. The transition from confrontation to cooperation is expected to be a key narrative driver as the story unfolds.

The drama will premiere on January 2, 2026, at 9:40 p.m. KST on MBC.
