Actress Im Soo Jung has shared new insights into her role in the upcoming thriller drama Mad Concrete Dreams, giving audiences a closer look at the complex character she portrays.

The drama follows Ha Jung Woo as Ki Soo Jong, a financially struggling landlord who becomes entangled in crime while trying to protect his family and property. In pursuit of financial stability, Ki Soo Jong invests heavily in a building by taking on massive loans. However, mounting debts push him into participating in a staged kidnapping scheme—one that soon spirals out of control when the fake crime begins to turn frighteningly real.

In the series, Im Soo Jung plays Kim Sun, Ki Soo Jong’s wife and a strong-willed woman known for her sharp judgment and calm mindset even in the middle of chaos. Described as a “steel mom,” Kim Sun is deeply pragmatic and fiercely protective of her family.

The character once worked as a nurse but chose to leave her career behind in order to focus on raising her daughter, Da Rae, who has a hearing impairment. Kim Sun now devotes herself fully to supporting her daughter’s dream of studying abroad, making family her absolute priority.

As the story unfolds, Kim Sun begins to sense that something is wrong when her husband—who has taken on heavy debts to purchase the building—starts behaving suspiciously. Determined to protect her daughter and family, she takes matters into her own hands, leading the story in an unexpected direction.

Speaking about why she chose the project, Im Soo Jung explained that “Mad Concrete Dreams” represents a deliberate step in expanding the range of genres in her acting career. She noted that in recent years she has been exploring different types of projects, citing the film Cobweb, the OTT series Low Life, and now Mad Concrete Dreams as part of a new chapter in her filmography.

When describing her character, the actress highlighted Kim Sun’s priorities and motivations. According to Im Soo Jung, Kim Sun believes that her daughter and family are far more important than any property or financial asset. Although she initially clashes with her husband in their everyday life, everything changes once she realizes that protecting her family requires decisive action.

At that point, the couple begins working together despite their differences, creating tense and engaging moments as they face the escalating situation side by side.

With its mix of crime, suspense, and intense family dynamics, Mad Concrete Dreams is set to premiere on March 14 at 9:10 p.m. KST, promising a gripping story driven by difficult choices and moral dilemmas.
