The upcoming drama Absolute Value of Romance has released its first set of character posters, offering a closer look at its main cast led by Kim Hyang Gi, Cha Hak Yeon, and Kim Jae Hyun. Blending school life with a playful meta-narrative, Absolute Value of Romance introduces a unique premise centered on imagination and reality colliding in unexpected ways.
At the heart of Absolute Value of Romance is high school student Yeo Eui Ju, played by Kim Hyang Gi. By day, she appears to be an ordinary student, but secretly she writes a BL novel that casts her own teachers as the main characters. Her quiet routine begins to unravel when real-life encounters with these teachers mirror the scenarios she once confined to fiction, gradually turning her peaceful school life into something far more chaotic. In her character poster, Yeo Eui Ju stands atop her own novel titled We Were Friends, holding a laptop as the caption describes her as a “student by day, romance novelist by night,” encapsulating her double life.

Among the teachers featured in her story is Ga Woo Su, portrayed by Cha Hak Yeon. Introduced as a “cold and handsome math teacher,” the character is also a Mensa member with an IQ of 156, emphasizing both his intellect and aloof demeanor. Cha Hak Yeon brings a composed presence to Ga Woo Su, reinforcing the character’s sharp and distant charm within Absolute Value of Romance.
In contrast, Japanese-language teacher Noh Dah Ju, played by Kim Jae Hyun, adds a lighter tone to the ensemble. Known as a “mood-maker,” he energizes those around him with his unpredictable personality and bright smile. Kim Jae Hyun’s portrayal highlights a more approachable and cheerful side, creating a dynamic balance among the faculty characters in Absolute Value of Romance.
The lineup also includes physical education teacher Jung Gi Jeon, portrayed by Sohn Jeong Hyuck, a former national athlete characterized as straightforward and masculine, as well as Korean language teacher Yoon Dong Ju, played by Kim Dong Gyu, who is described simply as someone with a naturally pleasant and charming aura. Together, these characters form the real-life counterparts to the figures in Yeo Eui Ju’s fictional world, deepening the interplay between imagination and reality that defines Absolute Value of Romance.
With its creative concept and diverse cast of personalities, Absolute Value of Romance is poised to explore both youthful creativity and the unpredictability of real-life relationships. The drama is scheduled to premiere on April 17 at 8 p.m., marking the beginning of a story where fiction may no longer remain safely on the page.
