Taiwanese actor Darren Wang has been handed a first-instance court ruling related to two separate cases involving the illegal acquisition of personal information.

According to Taiwanese media reports, the New Taipei District Court issued its ruling on April 22 regarding allegations that Darren Wang unlawfully accessed private information through police contacts and individuals linked to organized crime.

Six-Month Sentence in Fraud-Related Case

The court found Darren Wang guilty of violating personal data protection laws in a case tied to his girlfriend, Que Muxuan.

According to court findings, Que Muxuan had allegedly been defrauded by a man surnamed Pan and lost approximately NT$4 million (roughly US$120,000+).

In an attempt to recover the money, Darren Wang was accused of helping obtain Pan’s personal information through unauthorized channels.

For this case, the court sentenced him to six months in prison, though the sentence can reportedly be converted into a fine under Taiwan’s legal system.

Acquitted in Separate Military Service Investigation Case

Darren Wang was also involved in another investigation related to a man named Chen Zhiming, who was allegedly connected to military service evasion arrangements.

Reports claim the actor previously paid Chen NT$3.6 million (approximately US$110,000+) for assistance related to military service avoidance.

After suspecting Chen had failed to fulfill his promises, Darren Wang allegedly attempted to track him down by accessing personal records.

However, the court found him not guilty in that specific case.

Others Also Sentenced

Several additional individuals were also sentenced in connection with the broader investigation.

These reportedly include:

  • Que Muxuan, who received a six-month sentence
  • Darren Wang’s friend You Xiangmin, who received a three-month sentence
  • A former acting police official who received a one-year and four-month sentence for document forgery
  • Two individuals allegedly connected to organized crime who each received three-month sentences

Some of the prison terms may reportedly be converted into fines.

Ongoing Public Attention

The ruling has drawn major attention in Taiwan due to the involvement of law enforcement systems, organized crime allegations, and Darren Wang’s celebrity status.

Because this is a first-instance ruling, the legal process may continue if appeals are filed.
