What can be confirmed for now is that Zhang Linghe is currently filming his new costume drama Gui Luan (《归鸾》), a project that reportedly includes a significant number of action sequences.

In late April, online discussions surrounding the actor intensified after several netizens shared photos and videos allegedly showing Zhang Linghe struggling to move on set. In the footage, he appeared to need assistance from staff members while getting in and out of vehicles, quickly sparking concerns among fans about his physical condition.

As speculation spread online, Zhang Linghe’s studio issued an official response on April 28 to clarify the situation.

According to the statement, the actor experienced mild hypoglycemia while filming action scenes after excessive physical exhaustion and insufficient sugar intake. The following day, his condition reportedly worsened after he strained a muscle in his leg, which caused increased pain and limited mobility.

After undergoing medical examinations, doctors confirmed that there were no serious bone or ligament injuries. The actor is currently recovering under medical advice.

Shortly after the studio’s statement was released, Zhang Linghe also personally reassured fans by sending a voice message, asking them not to worry too much about his health.

Meanwhile, online claims suggesting that the actor has been “constantly rushing from one production to another” in an attempt to maintain visibility and stay relevant remain highly speculative. At this stage, there is no concrete evidence supporting that narrative.

A more objective reading of his current career trajectory shows that Zhang Linghe has indeed maintained a very busy filming schedule over the past two years.

From Story of Kunning Palace and The Princess Royal to The Best Thing, and most recently Zhu Yu, which aired earlier this year, the actor has consistently remained active in the industry. Now, with Gui Luan already in production, costume idol dramas continue to be a major part of his project lineup.

Following the relatively strong buzz surrounding Zhu Yu, Zhang Linghe remains firmly in a rising phase of his career. His frequent casting opportunities appear to reflect continued confidence from both platforms and the broader market in his commercial value.

Still, whether he can further solidify his position in the industry may ultimately depend on landing a truly breakout project that pushes him to an even higher level of recognition.
