tvN has officially confirmed a highly unusual new drama pairing as Kim Yun Seok and Kim Seon Ho team up for the upcoming fantasy-political series May the Congressman Protect You (국회의원님 지켜주세요, literal title).
Based on a popular web novel, the drama combines politics, revenge, time travel, and supernatural elements into a story that feels very different from traditional Korean political dramas. Rather than focusing purely on corruption investigations or power struggles, the series centers on an unlikely partnership between a dead veteran politician and an ordinary low-level civil servant.

Kim Yun Seok will play Goo Young Jin, a six-term assemblyman once considered a master strategist within the political world. He is described as someone who believes politics is built not on morality or conviction, but on calculation,利益, and survival. After becoming entangled in a corruption scandal, Goo Young Jin dies — only to return to the past as a ghost determined to rewrite his fate and reclaim political power.
Meanwhile, Kim Seon Ho takes on the role of Cha Jae Rim, a politically inexperienced level 9 civil servant with no ambition beyond living a peaceful, ordinary life. Unlike Goo Young Jin, Jae Rim has little interest in power or political games. However, his quiet life is completely overturned once the ghost of the fallen politician suddenly appears before him.
The contrast between the two leads is already one of the drama’s biggest attractions.
On one side is a cynical political veteran who views the world through strategy and manipulation. On the other is an ordinary young man disconnected from the political world entirely. Their partnership appears set to become both comedic and emotionally layered as they attempt to protect each other while navigating a rewritten timeline.
The production team itself has also generated significant anticipation.
The drama will be directed by Park Shin Woo, who recently won Best Director at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards for Our Unwritten Seoul. Known for his emotional visual storytelling and atmospheric direction, Park’s involvement suggests the series may lean more into character depth and psychological tension rather than simple fantasy spectacle.
The script is being written by Kwon Jong Kwan, the writer behind The Price of Confession, further raising expectations for complex emotional dynamics and morally ambiguous storytelling.
For many viewers, the project is especially notable because it marks another major television role for Kim Yun Seok, an actor widely respected for his commanding performances in both film and drama. His casting alone immediately adds weight and credibility to the series’ darker political themes.
At the same time, the drama could become an important project for Kim Seon Ho as well.
After rebuilding momentum through recent works, Kim Seon Ho appears to be gradually moving toward more layered and unconventional characters instead of relying solely on romance-centered leading-man roles. Cha Jae Rim’s combination of ordinariness, innocence, and reluctant involvement in political chaos may allow him to show a different side of his acting range.
The blend of fantasy, politics, revenge, and ghost-driven time travel also makes May the Congressman Protect You stand out within tvN’s current lineup. Korean political dramas are often grounded in realism, but this project seems prepared to mix institutional critique with supernatural storytelling and emotional partnership dynamics.
If executed well, the drama has the potential to become both a political thriller and a character-driven exploration of regret, power, morality, and second chances.
May the Congressman Protect You is scheduled to air on tvN.
