The Japanese thriller film “Matching” is officially returning with a sequel titled “Matching TRUE LOVE”, scheduled for release next year. Starring Tsuchiya Tao and Sakuma Daisuke, the new installment continues the chilling theme of horror sparked by encounters through a dating app, bringing the story to an entirely new and more intense setting.
The original Matching, released in February 2024, follows Rinka (Tsuchiya), a wedding planner inexperienced in romance, who meets the obsessive stalker Nagayama Tomu (Sakuma) through a dating application. The film attracted approximately 673,000 viewers and grossed 970 million yen at the box office.

In Matching TRUE LOVE, the story shifts to a resort hotel on a southern island where a “couple-matching trip” is being held. As the event unfolds, the hidden pasts of all participants gradually come to light. While each person seeks happiness, they become trapped in a deadly game filled with pressure, betrayal, suspicion, and escalating violence. Amid this high-stakes chaos, Rinka is forced to confront the meaning of “true love,” while Tomu once again shakes the fate of the men and women trapped on the island.
Blending romance, desire, and fear, the sequel aims to deepen the psychological tension of the original film while presenting a gripping new chapter. Expectations for Matching TRUE LOVE continue to rise as fans anticipate its next shocking turn.
