The television drama Saikai: Silent Truth, starring Takeuchi Ryoma and Inoue Mao, has unveiled its official poster and announced its theme song, “Sekai ga Owarimashita,” a new track by singer-songwriter Yuuri. The series is drawing attention for its restrained, atmospheric approach to suspense and human drama.

Saikai: Silent Truth is based on the novel Saikai by Yokozeki Dai, winner of the 56th Edogawa Ranpo Prize. Known for his socially grounded mysteries and psychological depth, Yokozeki’s work provides the foundation for a story that explores buried secrets, the passage of time, and moral responsibility. The supporting cast includes Seto Koji, Watanabe Daichi, Kita Kana, Danta Yasunori, and Eguchi Noriko.
The story begins 23 years in the past, when a sixth-grade boy named Junichi and three classmates bury a handgun—once used in a crime—beneath a cherry tree at their school. The four children share the secret and then drift apart as time passes, each following a separate path in life.
Years later, Junichi (played by Takeuchi Ryoma), now a police officer, is assigned to investigate a murder case. During the investigation, he is reunited with Makiko (played by Inoue Mao), one of his former classmates and his first love, this time as “police officer and suspect.” The situation grows even more troubling when the murder weapon is discovered to be the very gun the four children buried together decades earlier. Long-suppressed truths and emotions resurface, forcing the characters to confront choices made in the past.
Saikai: Silent Truth is set to premiere on January 13, airing every Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. on TV Asahi. Through its intertwined timelines and emotional reunions, the drama examines how unresolved secrets can shape lives long after they are hidden away.
