Actress Shin Eun Soo is reportedly in discussions to join the upcoming drama Hyupban (working title, 협반), a project that has already drawn attention for its unique premise and potential cast lineup.

According to reports on April 20, Shin Eun Soo is currently coordinating details regarding her appearance in Hyupban (협반). In response, her agency confirmed that she has received the offer and is “positively reviewing” the role, signaling a strong possibility of her participation.

The drama Hyupban (협반) centers on Ma Han Sang, a gangster with exceptional culinary skills who unexpectedly finds himself hiding in a college student’s home after rescuing them from danger. Rather than focusing on crime or action, the story unfolds as a healing narrative, where food becomes the medium through which characters connect, comfort one another, and gradually rebuild emotional stability.

At the heart of Hyupban (협반) is a three-generation household consisting of a grandmother, mother, and daughter. As Ma Han Sang integrates into this domestic space, the series explores how strangers can become a form of chosen family through shared meals and everyday interactions.

Jang Keun Suk is currently in talks to take on the role of Ma Han Sang, marking a potential return to a character that blends intensity with warmth. Meanwhile, Lee El has reportedly been offered the role of the mother within the household, adding further depth to the ensemble.

If confirmed, Shin Eun Soo will portray the daughter—a college student whose encounter with Ma Han Sang sets the story in motion. The role places her at the emotional center of the narrative, bridging the outsider’s arrival with the family’s evolving dynamic.

Notably, Hyupban (협반) is based on a Japanese novel that was previously adapted into a drama in 2016, suggesting a story structure that has already proven its appeal. However, this new version appears to reinterpret the material through a Korean lens, potentially emphasizing emotional nuance and character-driven storytelling.

The project is currently preparing to begin filming in the first half of the year, though final casting confirmations are still pending. As discussions continue, Hyupban (협반) stands out as a drama that combines an unconventional premise with a gentle, human-centered approach—offering a story where healing comes not through grand gestures, but through the quiet rituals of everyday life.
