Netflix has officially confirmed the star-studded cast for its upcoming film The Generals (working title), with Son Suk Ku, Ha Jung Woo, Ji Chang Wook, Hyun Bong Sik, and Seo Hyun Woo all joining the project.
The film will be directed by Yoon Jong Bin, the filmmaker behind Narco-Saints and Nine Puzzles, both of which showcased his signature style of exploring power structures, survival instincts, and morally complex characters.

With The Generals, Yoon Jong Bin appears to be returning to similar territory—this time through the lens of modern Korean political history.
The film centers on Roh Tae Woo, the longtime second-in-command who stood beside military ruler Chun Doo Hwan while maintaining the image of an ordinary man. Beneath that public image, however, he is portrayed as someone quietly pursuing greater power while navigating the dangerous political landscape around him.
According to Netflix, the story will also examine the people surrounding him and the complex relationships that shaped his rise.
Son Suk Ku has been cast as Roh Tae Woo and is expected to portray one of the most layered roles of his career.
Historically remembered by many as Chun Doo Hwan’s longtime ally and perpetual second-in-command, Roh Tae Woo remains a controversial political figure. The film aims to explore his inner conflicts, ambitions, and eventual rise to the highest position of power.
Meanwhile, Ha Jung Woo will take on the role of Chun Doo Hwan, the central figure of South Korea’s military regime and one of the most controversial leaders in modern Korean history.
His pairing with Son Suk Ku is already generating major interest, as the film will depict both their friendship as former Korea Military Academy classmates and the increasingly complicated relationship between the country’s most powerful man and the figure standing directly behind him.
Adding further tension to the story, Ji Chang Wook will portray Heo Hak Seong, a junior military academy graduate whom Roh Tae Woo considers a threat.
The role is expected to introduce additional conflict as political rivalries intensify.
Meanwhile, Hyun Bong Sik will play Jung Ho Joong, another military academy classmate and close friend of both Roh Tae Woo and Chun Doo Hwan.
Seo Hyun Woo rounds out the lineup as Park Cheol Woong, a public security prosecutor working at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office who also serves as an aide to Roh Tae Woo.
The film marks another ambitious historical project for Netflix Korea, combining major star power with politically charged source material.
With Son Suk Ku, Ha Jung Woo, and Ji Chang Wook leading the cast under director Yoon Jong Bin, The Generals is already shaping up to be one of Netflix’s most closely watched Korean film projects in development.
