ENA’s upcoming drama Doctor on the Edge has officially locked in its premiere date while giving viewers a first look at the cast’s script reading session.

The upcoming series is being described as a medical human romance that follows people carrying emotional scars who unexpectedly find healing on a remote island.

At the center of the story is Do Ji Eui, played by Lee Jae Wook, a public health doctor who is sent to the notoriously avoided Pyeondong Island.

For him, the assignment feels particularly cruel.

Do Ji Eui reportedly carries trauma connected to the ocean and actively avoids islands, making his forced relocation even more emotionally complicated.

The drama will follow his gradual transformation as he moves from someone emotionally guarded and isolated toward personal growth and healing.

Lee Jae Wook is expected to portray that emotional progression through a detailed performance that balances internal pain with gradual change.

Starring opposite him is Shin Ye Eun, who plays Yook Ha Ri, a former university hospital nurse.

Although she is known for her warm personality and inability to ignore people in need, she also returns to Pyeondong Island carrying secrets of her own.

The role appears designed to showcase both Shin Ye Eun’s naturally bright screen presence and a more emotionally layered side as her character’s hidden struggles begin to emerge.

The supporting cast also adds additional personality to the drama’s island setting.

Hong Min Ki will play Hyun Chi Yeon, an elite public health doctor with a classic tsundere personality.

Lee Soo Kyung stars as Uhm Jung Sun, a local island nurse who appears tough on the outside but hides a softer side underneath.

Meanwhile, Kim Yoon Woo takes on the role of Yong Ju Cheon, an immature yet lovable public health doctor specializing in Korean medicine who is humorously referred to as the “idol” of Pyeondong Island.

According to the production team, Doctor on the Edge is ultimately a story about wounded people finding comfort in one another while learning how to grow both professionally and personally.

They described the drama as a mix of friendship, romance, healing, and youthful chemistry.

Rather than focusing solely on intense hospital settings, the series appears to be blending medical storytelling with emotional healing in a quieter, more isolated environment.

That island backdrop may ultimately become one of the drama’s biggest differentiating factors in an already crowded medical drama landscape.

With Lee Jae Wook and Shin Ye Eun leading the story, Doctor on the Edge will premiere on June 1.
