Nearly a decade after becoming one of Korea’s most iconic dramas, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God is officially bringing its core cast back together for a special reunion project.

tvN confirmed that Gong Yoo, Kim Go Eun, Lee Dong Wook, and Yoo In Na recently filmed a travel variety special in Gangneung, Gangwon Province. According to the network, the four actors spent one night and two days filming from April 24 to April 25, marking their first major reunion centered around the drama’s 10th anniversary.

The original series, which premiered in 2016, became a major cultural phenomenon across Asia and international markets. Its combination of fantasy romance, emotionally driven storytelling, and memorable performances helped establish it as one of the most influential Korean dramas of its era. The chemistry between Gong Yoo and Kim Go Eun, alongside the widely loved secondary pairing of Lee Dong Wook and Yoo In Na, remains a key reason the series continues to resonate with audiences.

Rather than returning through a scripted sequel, the cast reunion will take the form of a travel variety program. This format is expected to focus more on the actors’ real-life interactions, nostalgia surrounding the original drama, and reflections on the impact the series had on their careers.

The upcoming special will be directed by producer Hwang Da Won, known for projects such as Handsome Trot and City Girls on the Climb. While specific program details remain limited, the announcement alone has already generated strong reactions from longtime fans.

For many viewers, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God remains closely tied to a specific era of Korean drama popularity, and the reunion offers an opportunity to revisit that legacy through a different lens.

The 10th anniversary special is currently scheduled to air in the first half of 2026.

Since its debut in late 2016, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (Goblin) has evolved from a hit fantasy romance drama into one of the most defining Korean dramas of the modern Hallyu era. Its finale recorded an impressive 18.68% nationwide rating on tvN, making it one of the highest-rated cable dramas in South Korean history at the time. However, its legacy goes far beyond ratings. Audiences continue to remember the drama for Kim Shin’s tragic immortality arc, his fated romance with Ji Eun-tak, and especially the unforgettable chemistry between Gong Yoo’s Goblin and Lee Dong-wook’s Grim Reaper — a bromance that became iconic in K-drama culture. Its soundtrack, including songs like Stay With Me and Beautiful, also remains deeply associated with the series. While the show faced criticism over the age-gap dynamic between the lead characters, it is still widely regarded as a benchmark for fantasy melodrama because of Kim Eun-sook’s emotionally layered writing, cinematic visuals, and lasting cultural impact. Even successful genre peers such as Hotel Del Luna, Alchemy of Souls, and My Love From the Star have struggled to replicate the same level of long-term emotional resonance and mainstream influence. The announcement of a 10th-anniversary reunion special in 2026 further proves that Goblin remains a rare cultural landmark rather than just another popular K-drama.
